Research for Africa, by Africa.

ARS began in 2022 at the University of Cape Town, started by researchers who wanted African scholarship led from within Africa rather than described from outside it. Since then the society has been backed by more than 40 institutions.

We have brought students into rooms with five Nobel Laureates, and connected over 2,000 students with programming built around what early-career African researchers actually need.

Donations are unrestricted. They keep the society independent — able to plan beyond a single grant cycle, and to say yes to work that matters before the funding for it exists.
