Structure
Holds ARS to its purpose. Sets strategy, carries fiduciary duty for the Society’s funds, and is answerable for compliance as a registered non-profit.
Runs the Society day to day and coordinates the five directorates below, each of which carries one part of the work.
The Grand Secretariat
Carries the Society’s voice — publications, the website, and how ARS reaches students, members and partners.
Stewards funds and records, and keeps ARS in good standing as a registered NPO and an incorporated NPC.
Builds research skill through training, mentorship and hands-on programmes such as the ARS Lab Camp.
Leads the Society’s own research agenda and the collaborations that turn African questions into African evidence.
Looks after members and volunteers, and the policies that keep participation equitable, safe and accountable.

ARS operates under the oversight of the Department of Social Development and is incorporated as African Research Society NPC (K2025477702). It has held a dedicated non-profit bank account since June 2025, with financial oversight carried by the Finance, Administration & Compliance directorate.
